So is it worth using  pineapple in your smoothies? There are several health benefits of eating pineapple. This is well documented on the internet and I am going to touch on a few. Pineapple is a store house of vitamins and minerals that have health promoting properties . A diet rich in pineapple helps clear certain intestinal parasites such as tapeworm.Pineapples are rich source of soluble and insoluble  fibres that helps with digestion. 100g of pineapple only contains 50 Kcal and 86g of water.

Pineapple contain an enzyme called Bromelain that has anti inflammatory, anti clotting and anti cancer properties. Bromelain also helps to digest protein. Pineapples are packed with anti oxidants which boost your immune system and get rid of free radicals from your body. Pineapple also contains, calcium, iron,magnesium, potassium, zinc, copper, vit C, Vit A, Vit E, Vit K, Riboflavin, Niacin, folate and carotene Beta. All these minerals and Vitamins are useful in the daily functioning of the cells in our body.

Other health  benefits of eating pineapple includes, promotion of healthy hair growth, helps treat bronchitis, lowers cholesterol, helps prevent inflammation. For healthy gum eat more pineapple.

Pineapple, Raspberry and Apple Smoothie 


  • 1/4 of whole pineapple   Pineapple, raspberry and apple
  • 1 Medium size apple
  • 1/2 a cup of raspberries- frozen or fresh.
  • 1 1/2 pint of Milk

Instructions on making the

Peel the skin of the pineapple making sure to remove all ‘eye’ remaining on the flesh. Cut into quarters. Slice one of the quarters into smaller pieces and pop in the blender. Slice the remaining and put them in a freezer bag and keep in the freezer  ready to use at a future date or you can use it as snack during the day.

Slice one medium size apple into smaller chunks and put that in the blender too. Now, add half a cup of raspberries together with the milk. You can add more milk if you like the smoothie to be less thick. I personally like my smoothies to be thick as it fills you up for longer.

Raspberry contain a compound called xylitol which is used as a substitution for sugar because it has less calories compared to the same amount of ordinary sugar. Raspberries are full of vitamins, minerals and dietary fibres.

Raspberries contains minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium all helping with preventing  diseases, boosting the immune system and nourishing the cells in our bodies  where they are needed most. Raspberries are natural source of Vitamin C which is a useful anti oxidant. Raspberries are rich source of the B complex of vitamins well as Vitamins A, E, and K. These vitamins helps remove free radicals from the body and also help with ageing process.
